Autumn Term Information

Dear Parents,

Welcome to Juniper Class. This year your teacher is Miss Moffatt. The teaching assistants are Mrs Turner and Miss Brittleton. We will be on the playground every morning and the door will be open when you pick your child up if you wish to speak to us.

This term our topic will be ‘The Gruffalo’ we will be learning to retell the story and use the correct story language. We will also be focusing on settling into school, following the rules and routines and working on our personal and social skills.

As our trip we will be visiting Delamere Forest to find the Gruffalo on the Gruffalo trail and taking part in den building activities. There will be more information regarding this trip to follow. We will need parent volunteers, please let us know if you wish to support during the trip.

In Literacy, Language and Communication we will be learning the story of The Gruffalo. We will be learning how stories are structured as well as learning the correct story language to retell the story. We will be focusing on recognising our names and holding a pencil effectively to form all the letters in our names correctly.

Reading-you can support your child at home by reading to them and talking about the story and asking questions about what they have read. We will give your child a reading book once a week, this will be changed every Friday please ensure you return the book as you received it. Your child will be given a reading record for you to write in when you have read with your child.

In Mathematics this term we will focus on number and calculation skills, counting forward and backwards to 20 and recognising numbers to 20. We will also be learning 1 more and 1 less of a given number. In Shape, Space and Measure we will be learning the names and properties of 2D and 3D shapes. You can support your child at home by singing number songs and counting with them.

PE will be on Tuesday every week, please ensure your child has their P.E bag in school for the week and it can be taken home to wash at the weekend. Please make sure your child has the correct P.E kit (named) and suitable footwear. This term in P.E we will be focusing on moving our bodies in a variety of ways to music and listening to and following instructions correctly
