Summer  Term Information

 

Dear Parents,

This term our topic will be ‘Mini Beasts’ and our story will be “The Very Hungry Caterpillar’, we will be learning to retell the story and use the correct story language. We will also be looking at alternative versions of the text and learning new vocabulary.We will be taking part in mini beast hunts and learning new information about the world around us. We will also have some very special guests in the classroom that we will have to care for!  We will be learning how to be independent learners and preparing for our transition in Year One.

We will be planning for trips during the next term and there will be more information regarding the trips to follow. We will need parent volunteers, please let us know if you wish to support during the trip.

 

In Literacy, Language and Communication we will be learning the story of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. We will be learning how stories are structured as well as learning the correct story language to retell the story and learning new vocabulary. We will be focusing on spelling words correctly and using the correct language related to the story. We will be writing everyday in our books to prepare us for Year One.

 

Reading-you can support your child at home by reading to them and talking about the story and asking questions about what they have read. You can also encourage your child to write a sentence about what they have read or write some of the words they have been reading. Books will be changed every Friday.

In Mathematics this term we will focus on number and calculation skills, subtracting two amounts and doubling and halving to solve problems. We will also be learning how to count on or back to solve problems to develop  our reasoning skills. In Shape, Space and Measure we will be learning the names and properties of  3D shapes and learning about weight, height and capacity.

PE will be on Tuesday every week, please ensure your child has their P.E bag in school for the week and it can be taken home to wash at the weekend. Please make sure your child has the correct P.E kit (named) and suitable footwear.

This term we will be preparing for sports day and practicing for the different events.

  • And most importantly a smile!
