We are fantastic learners!

This week the children have settled well into their first full day week in Juniper class. The daily routine includes Phonics, Numeracy, Literacy and Topic in the afternoon.

This week in Phonics we have been working on segmenting and blending cvc words e.g. cat, mat, sat and we have been working on ensuring when we write that the letters are formed correctly. There are lots of videos on YouTube to support your child at home with phonics and many apps on tablets and iPads available. Another good website to use is www.phonicsplay.com

This week in Numeracy we have been focusing on recognising numbers confidently to 20 and being able to identify 1 more or 1 less than a given number. We have been  doing this by playing lots of number games and enjoying practical maths activities.

This week in Literacy we have introduced the story of ‘The Gruffalo’. We have been describing the different characters in the story and talking about what happens in different parts of the story. Next week, we will be learning to retell the story using talk for writing actions and story language.

Miss Moffatt, Mrs Turner and Miss Brittleton look forward to another exciting week with Juniper class next week!
