Acorns love Owl Babies

Over the last couple of weeks, the Acorn Preschool children have shown a real interest in playing with babies. This week the children have explored the story ‘The Owl Babies’ by Martin Waddell.

The ‘Owl Babies’ story has really helped the children with developing their listening and attention at story time, as they have been able to join in with the words at key parts of the story. The children have also developed their understanding of key vocabulary from the story.

The children have loved making a variety of owl related craft – painting pictures of owls and creating leaf art and nests for the owls.   The children also continued to express ideas about autumn through their art work, with conker painting and autumn leaf pictures.

This week we have been focusing on clapping the beats (syllables) in key words, such as the months and their names. The children are getting very good at tuning in and thinking about ‘how many claps they have in their name.’

The Oak View Academy chickens love to visit the Acorns on a regular basis – the children love watching them as they walk around and peck. We even had a visit from a hedgehog which was rescued by Mrs Alford.

Stars of the day this week were Eric, Jasmine – well done to you.
