Maple class have been enjoying our theme of Castles, Knights and Dragons and this Monday we went to Whittington Castle in Oswestry. What a wonderful time we had! The children dressed up as a character – someone who lived inside the castle and we learnt about their roles. We also enjoyed the story of Dick Whittington and took park in a Quiz Trail. The children were dressed up and each had a role to play in the quiz trail, for example, the witches and wizards taught the other groups spells and the Guards protected the castle from the Welsh Raiders! We learnt how the castle had been invaded in the past and about spies who hid in the castle to get information against their enemies.
As part of our topic this week we used the trip to inspire our story writing and will be castle-themed writing next week.
In Maths, Maple class have been working super hard on solving word problems and as it is coming to the end of term we are reminding ourselves of important methods to solve problems.
In English we have written for different purposes, including a Wanted poster and a diary entry. We have also planned our non-chronological report on a dragon and next week we will begin writing it ready for a hot task.
As we are coming to the end of Year 2 it is important that the children are practising their writing skills at home, especially their grammar (how sentences are structured) and spelling. Please practise spellings at home where you can as the children will need to spell and read the Year 2 High Frequency words by the end of year 2.
