Pre-school children at Oak View Academy winged their way to Manchester Airport Runway Visitor Park to get nose-to-nose with Concorde.

As well as seeing the now-retired world famous supersonic passenger airliner, children had the opportunity to board a working Monarch plane, sit in the cockpit and learn about the aircraft.

The trip was part of the pre-school’s commitment to giving children hands-on educational experiences.

Deputy Headteacher Charlotte Alford said: “We had a great time inside a real plane, pretending to be the pilot and dressing up as airport police, fire and rescue, and flight attendants.

“We also watched the planes on the runway, and the children were amazed to see the biggest plane in the world, the Airbus A380, landing so gracefully.

“They were also amazed by Concorde and how big the wheels and jets are.”

It was one of many adventures for the nursery children.

“We go on a trip every half term, and three times a year we visit a local farm for activities such as meeting newborn lambs and hunting for bugs, and their other themed excursions, including at Christmas.

“We also enjoy welcoming visitors to our nursery setting. Animals Take Over bring a variety of animals for hands-on sessions, and we have had guide dogs, police, butterflies and so much more.”

Oak View Academy is part of North West Academies Trust, which manages schools across Cheshire and Shropshire including Delamere Academy, near Northwich, and St Martin’s Academy, Chester.
