Summer Term Information
This term our text will be ‘Sleeping Beauty’ we will be learning to retell the story using the correct story language. This term we will be focussing preparing for our transition to Year One.
We will plan for trips throughout this term and there will be more information regarding these trips nearer the time. We will need parent volunteers, please let us know if you wish to support during the trips.
In Literacy, Language and Communication we will be learning the story of Sleeping Beauty and The Hungry Caterpillar. We will be learning how stories are structured as well as learning the correct story language to retell the story. We will be focusing on writing independently and how to use the correct punctuation in our writing.
Reading-you can support your child at home by reading to them and talking about the story and asking questions about what they have read. We will give your child a reading book once a week, this will be changed every Friday please ensure you return the book as you received it. Your child will be given a reading record for you to write in or sign when you have read with your child. You can also encourage your child to answer questions about the text they have read.
In Mathematics this term we will focus on number and calculation skills, counting forward to 100 and recognising numbers beyond 20. We will be learning how to add and subtract two digit numbers. In Shape, Space and Measure we will be learning how to use the correct mathematical language to talk about size, shape, weight and capacity..
PE will be on Tuesday every week, please ensure your child has their P.E bag in school for the week and it can be taken home to wash at the weekend. Please make sure your child has the correct P.E kit (named) and suitable footwear. This term in P.E we will be focusing on throwing, catching and ball skills.
This term we will also be focussing on the world around us. We will be encouraging the children to talki about similarities, differences and patterns of change. We will be looking at plants and animals in our local environment.
