Juniper Class

Welcome back Juniper Class!

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter break and that you’re ready for our Summer Term.

SUMMER 1

Our overarching topic this half term is all about Growth and ‘What grows in your Garden?’. We will be exploring different things which grow including plants, flowers, vegetables, mini-beasts and our own growth! I have attached our topic grid along with the areas of learning we will be supporting you with during this half term.

We will be reading ‘The Extraordinary Gardener’ by Sam Boughton and will be writing our own set of instructions on how to grow a garden plant/ vegetable! When you arrive back to Juniper class you will be excited to see a Beanstalk awaits you in the role play area for your next adventure of imagination.

Homework: Homework will be handed out on a Friday and must be handed in on the following Monday morning.

Reading: Children will take home 3 books a week.

Children will get a practise phonics book / blending book every Monday that must be handed in on a Friday for them to receive a new book the following week. On Wednesdays, they will get to choose a ‘read with me’ reading for pleasure book to share with their family at home and on Fridays, they will take home a Phonics book-bag book, linked to the sounds covered in their phonics sessions that week. Please do find time each night to read with your child at home, this supports many other developmental areas for children as well as their progress in reading.

PE: PE will be every Tuesday and Thursday morning, children will need their full PE kits. We usually ask parents to bring their child’s PE kit in on a Monday, keep it in school for the week, and take it home on a Friday to be washed over the weekend. This enables us to do more physical activity during the week if we get a chance.

Take a look our our Knowledge Organiser for this half term…

I have lots of exciting things planned for you this term and I’m really looking forward to getting to know you all!

Please see our Phonics meeting for Parents/carers delivered earlier in the year to see how to best support your child with phonics at home.
