Spring Term Information

Dear Parents,

We are now in Spring Term 1. We hope you had a lovely Christmas and had a lovely time celebrating Christmas time with your family.

This term our text will be ‘Little Red’ we will be learning to become familiar with writing independently using CVC words, segmenting and blending. This term will be focussed on developing an understanding of the story, become engaged with the text and vocabulary and begin to write our own short sentences.

Trips will be planned for to coincide with our topic and there will be more information regarding these trips nearer the time. We will need parent volunteers, please let us know if you wish to support during the trips.

In Literacy, Language and Communication we will be learning the story of ‘Little Red’. We will be learning how to retell stories with a focus on the language and vocabulary used in the story. We will be focusing on developing story structure, building sentences and using our phonic knowledge to segment and blend our own words and sentences.

Reading- Please support your child at home by reading to them and talking about the story and asking questions about what they have read. We will give your child a blending book every Monday and a reading book every Wednesday. Please ensure you return the book as you received it. Your child will be given a reading record for you to write in or sign when you have read with your child. You can also encourage your child to answer questions about the text they have read. Please encourage the use of Reading Buddies; any photographs you would like to share can be sent to the office via email or put on their Learning Book from home.

In Mathematics this term we will focus on adding and subtracting and recording. In Shape, Space and Measure we will be focussing on measuring, capacity, time and ordering.

PE will be on Tuesday every week, please ensure your child brings their P.E. kit in on the Monday, they can then bring them home every Friday and it can be taken home to wash at the weekend. Please ensure your child has the correct P.E kit (named) and suitable footwear.

This term we will also focus on imagination and our topic of ‘Traditional Fairy Tales’. We will be looking at how Traditional Fairy Tales are planned and the stages through out a story, creating our own stories and developing on our expressive arts and design skills along with imaginative thinking skills.

Every day checklist:

  • Book bag (Plastic wallet, both books inside, yellow reading record)
  • PE Kit: To bring in on a Monday and to be taken home on Fridays
  • Water bottle
  • And most importantly a smile!

We hope that this information is helpful. Please do not hesitate to come and speak to us if you need any more information or have any questions.

Many thanks,

Miss Latham and Mrs Turner
