Juniper Class

Autumn Term Information

Dear Parents,

My name is Miss Latham, I am the Reception teacher in Juniper class and I am very excited to be teaching your children in Juniper class this year and work with you all.

This term our text will be ‘Star in the Jar’ we will be learning to become familiar with text structure and language. This term will be focussed on settling into Juniper class, understanding routines and expectations.

Trip will be planned for to coincide with our topic and there will be more information regarding these trips nearer the time. We will need parent volunteers, please let us know if you wish to support during the trips.

In Literacy, Language and Communication we will be learning the story of ‘We are all different’ and ‘Star in the Jar’. We will be learning how stories are structured as well as familiarising ourselves with the correct story language to retell the story. We will be focusing on developing story structure through play, hands on experiences, fun and creative activities.

Reading-you can support your child at home by reading to them and talking about the story and asking questions about what they have read. We will give your child a reading book once a week, this will be changed every Friday please ensure you return the book as you received it. Your child will be given a reading record for you to write in or sign when you have read with your child. You can also encourage your child to answer questions about the text they have read.

In Mathematics this term we will focus on numbers 0-10. We will be learning to confidently and independently recognise and count from 0-10.  In Shape, Space and Measure we will be learning how to use the correct mathematical language to talk about shape; becoming confident recognising and identifying shapes.

PE will be on Tuesday every week, please ensure your child has their P.E bag in school for the week and it can be taken home to wash at the weekend. Please ensure your child has the correct P.E kit (named) and suitable footwear.

This term we will also focus on the environment and our topic ‘All about us’. We will be looking at likes, dislikes, similarities and differences between peers and changes to the environment.

Every day checklist:

  • Book bag
  • PE Kit: To bring in on a Monday and to be taken home on Fridays
  • Reading book and record
  • Water bottle
  • And most importantly a smile!

We hope that this information is helpful. Please do not hesitate to come and speak to us if you need any more information or have any questions.

Many thanks,

Miss Latham, Mrs Turner and Mrs Jones.
