The Acorn Preschool children have been excited this week as their thoughts are well and truly focused on Christmas. Lots of cheeky and naughty Elves arrived over the weekend, so the children were keen to tell us about the adventures that happened.
On Monday the Acorn children were taken to the Crewe Lyceum Theatre to see ‘Dear Santa’ performed live on stage. They loved watching this performance, and joined in brilliantly. At the end, they all met Santa and his Elf and received a gift. For the rest of the week, our story was ‘Dear Santa’ and the children were very good at telling it.
A Christmas tree arrived in the home corner, which added some excitement and the children have loved decorating it with tinsel and baubles. This has involved turn taking, working with others and some problem solving skills (working out how to stop the tree from being weighed down on one side if all the decorations are added in 1 spot!)
For the remainder of the week, the practices were underway for our Christmas Nativity ‘Everyone Loves a Baby’ with the children singing the songs and learning their words. We are so proud of all of the children as they have clearly been practicing their words at home as they say them so clearly and confidently. They are doing really well, and we can’t wait to show the parents soon.
To build on the Christmas fever, the children have spent the week writing ‘letters’ to Santa, painting festive pictures and making gingerbread with the playdough. They also started to write their Christmas shopping list, deciding what food they needed over the Christmas holidays. We are currently really focusing on saying the counting numbers up to 10 (and beyond) and also writing our names.
On Friday, the children had a wonderful experience visiting Chester Cathedral to join in with the ‘Sing a Christmas Story’ event. The children loved the walk through the Chester Christmas market, noticing how big the cathedral was and looking at all the ornate architecture when inside. We joined in with all the singing and Isla did so well walking round with a candle for a special song.
Stars of the Day this week has been Ava-Rose, Myleigh & James – well done to you all.
