Easter is coming and Acorns are getting excited!
This week the Acorn Preschool children have been exploring what they know already about Easter, and learning some new things too!
On Monday the children explored a basket of Easter interest items, which helped the children develop their talking skills. We supported the understanding of Easter through symbols such as crosses on the hot cross buns and Easter eggs.
Across the course of the week, the children enjoyed using their cutting skills to put the eggs or easter bunnies in the correct size order. They have painted and decorated easter eggs. They have also coloured and written in Easter cards.
The children were able to watch as the tadpoles came out of the frogspawn this week. They were so pleased to see what they learnt last week for themselves.
At the moment, jigsaws are a bit hit with the children – this helps them to use their observation skills to work out where the pattern on the pieces are similar. Children show so much pride once they have successfully completed a jigsaw – and equally love to break it up immediately and start all over again!
Our story of the week ‘Chicken Licken’ has helped the children with building on their ability to hear rhyming words through all the names: Henny Penny, Cocky Locky, Goosey Loosey. You can help your children with their understanding about rhyming words by making funny rhymes with different names, e.g. Harry Larry, Sue Boo.
The Acorn children are coming along so well with their writing, and are now producing recognisable letters from their name and other letters or numbers. Over the Easter holidays we sent home some sheets to support you with developing your child’s ability to form letters from their name and numbers 1, 2 & 3. We look forward to continuing this after the holidays and to see how much they have come on.
Stars of the day this week were Alfie, Ruby and Aria – well done to you all!
The staff at Acorn Preschool would like to wish all the Acorns and their families a very happy Easter holiday
with lots of safe fun in the sun (fingers crossed!)
