Elmer – the colourful elephant and the Acorns
This week the Acorn Preschool children have explored the world of colour through the story ‘Elmer’ by David McKee. We have had a focus on recognising and knowing our colours – the children have sorted colourful teddies, played a colour game ‘Red Dog, Blue Dog,’ painted and drawn colourful pictures and made colourful ‘elephant’ biscuits.
As we continued to explore colour, the Acorns enjoyed watching an experiment which showed them the formation of a rainbow on a plate using skittles. As we watched the rainbow forming, we sang our song from the previous week ‘The Rainbow Song.’ You can find a link on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRTdq0VsLGQ) to watch and sing this song with your child at home.
Due to school receiving an abundance of tomatoes in the fruit delivery, and many of the children not liking to eat them, Acorn children explored what happens to them when they are squished and squashed! Great for developing those hand and finger joints to get ready for writing.
Stars of the day this week were: Annabella, Sophia, Kingston, Lexi. Well done for all your hard work and good choices.
