I hope you are all keeping safe and healthy and enjoying some extra time at home with your families.

Here are a few things I thought you might enjoy trying at home next week whist school is closed.

Home made playdough.
Now this is something out little Acorns should be very good at helping to prepare as it’s a task we work together to make most weeks.

To make little Acorns playdough you will need –

  • 8 tbsp plain flour
  • 2 tbsp table salt
  • 60ml warm water
  • food colouring (if desired, can be made without)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

Method

1. Mix the flour and salt in a large bowl. In a separate bowl mix together the water, a few drops of food colouring and the oil.

2. Pour the coloured water into the flour mix and bring together with a spoon.

3. Dust a work surface with a little flour and turn out the dough. Knead together for a few minutes to form a smooth, pliable dough. If you want a more intense colour you can work in a few extra drops of food colouring.

4. Store in a plastic sandwich bag (squeeze out the air) in the fridge to keep it fresh.

Simple!

With your playdough why not try making a pretend birthday cake, you could collect sticks from the garden or on your daily walk to use as candles.

Use your hands to roll out some snakes or worms, who can make the longest? Which is the shortest? How many snakes are there altogether?

Get outdoors as much as possible!

Take that daily walk and spend lots of time in the garden. Have look around you can you find something blue, something red, green and yellow – hunting for colours outside is great fun!

Look under stones and rocks, are there any if our creepy crawly insert friends hiding?

If you’re very careful you could use a camera or a camera phone to take pictures of some of the things outdoors that interest you. Children see the world so differently to adults spying beauty in objects we barely notice and seeing photos taken though the eyes of a child really demonstrates this.

Keep singing!
