Hours 32.5 (8.30am until 3pm Monday to Friday)

We are looking to appoint a dynamic and highly motivated teaching assistant to provide learning support to pupils with additional needs in year 2 from September.

At Oak View Primary Academy we have lower than average class sizes and our focus is on the wellbeing of the children we support, as well as their education. We encompass a holistic approach to the curriculum and offer our students opportunities many other schools can’t. Examples of this are the residential visits, free-swimming lessons and wrap around club. Our curriculum is more than just learning, it is about opening the children’s eyes to the world of possibility around them.

Main Purpose

The successful candidate will be an excellent classroom practitioner, with high expectations of themselves and children.  They will have the ability to work within a motivated team who are relishing the challenge of supporting individuals to achieve their personal best.  If you have excellent management skills, the experience to understand children with complex needs and the desire to take on a new challenge, you could be the person we need.  The position is a 1 year contract, part time (32.5 hours) working from 8.30am to 3pm, Monday to Friday.

Essential Criteria

  • NVQ 3 or equivalent.
  • English and maths O level or equivalent


Desirable criteria

  • An experience of supporting children in class and delivering small group support out of class in KS1.
  • Experience of Read Write Inc phonics catch up interventions.
  • A clear understanding of the importance of safeguarding and a commitment to ensuring that this is delivered to all children.
  • A good knowledge of SEND and experience of strategies to support children including those with hearing difficulties.
  • A willingness to undertake additional training as required.

Duties and responsibilities

  • The ability to support vulnerable children and those with SEND.
  • To be responsible for delivering some Read Write Inc interventions to individuals/groups.
  • Good behaviour management skills.
  • Effective communication skills both orally and written.
  • An ability to identify the next steps for the children’s learning.
  • To have high expectations of the children and yourself.
  • Have a good relationship with the children, parents and staff and work as part of the
  • Ability to be flexible.
  • Sense of humour.
  • A commitment to help all children achieve their full potential, especially those with complex needs.
  • The ability to engage children effectively.
  • The ability to be responsible for the learning of a group of children within the class and feed back to the teacher on each child’s progress.
