Over, under, around and through with Acorns

Story of the week was ‘Rosie’s Walk’. This story is excellent for encouraging children’s understanding of positional language. We have orally rehearsed an adapted version of the book, which allows the children to remember easily the events. We have used the Talk for Writing approach to help the children learn the story with repetitive language and memorable actions. We also had a go at acting out the events in the story when playing outside on the balancing equipment. Core vocabulary linked to this story the children have been learning this week was around, over, under and past.

The children also enjoyed a visit to the school chickens, although a few children were wearing their fox masks so the chickens were not hanging around for long!

Rhyme of the week was ‘Round and Round the Garden’ – this tied in with feeing the 3 bears with porridge, and also our vocabulary for the week. Children very much enjoyed tickling each other when singing this.

We have also continued to have a go at writing the letters in our name and mark making for a purpose. We are also encouraging the children to tune in to the initial sounds in words – being able to pick out the word which has a different start sound from all the others.

On Friday, children supported Children in Need by dressing up and having crazy hair. They also enjoyed decorating Pudsey pictures and making Pudsey inspired biscuits.

Stars of the day this week were James, Eva, Kingston, Archie & Jasmine – well done to you all!
