In Maths, Hawthorn Class have continued with our place value topic. After comparing and ordering numbers, we moved onto rounding to the nearest 10,000 and 100,000. We found a certain rhyme very helpful in remembering the process for rounding numbers: ‘5 or more raise the score, 4 or less give it a rest’!
In English, Hawthorn Class have carefully explored our model text – a diary entry written by Henry. We identified the key language features and layout of a diary and considered how we can use these techniques in our own recounts.
In our Topic lessons this week, Hawthorn Class have investigated some of the first trains and railways. We ordered the most significant locomotives on a timeline and then imagined what it was like to be one of the first passengers on George Stevenson’s Locomotion No. 1!
