In Maths, Hawthorn Class have continued with our place value topic. After comparing and ordering numbers, we moved onto rounding to the nearest 10,000 and 100,000. We found a certain rhyme very helpful in remembering the process for rounding numbers: ‘5 or more raise the score, 4 or less give it a rest’!

In English, Hawthorn Class have carefully explored our model text – a diary entry written by Henry. We identified the key language features and layout of a diary and considered how we can use these techniques ┬áin our own recounts.

In our Topic lessons this week, Hawthorn Class have investigated some of the first trains and railways. We ordered the most significant locomotives on a timeline and then imagined what it was like to be one of the first passengers on George Stevenson’s Locomotion No. 1!
