Sports Day Success in Maple!
We kicked off this week with Sports Day, which was fantastic! Everyone tried their best and we enjoyed some great events including the bat and beanbag race, relay, hoop throw, bean bag shuttle and the running race. It was a great afternoon and it was so nice to see so many parents and family supporting the children.
In maths we have been looking at patterns and being able to describe them. We started it with a pattern hunt around the playground and the children spotted some interesting patterns from the school skirts to wooden fences to brick walls. We have then continued to describe the rotations and turns within the patterns using mathematical language.
On Thursday some children went to the athletics competition after school and were fantastic. They all tried really hard in their individual and team events and were true ambassadors for the school. Overall Oak View were 4thwhich is a great result as we have been moved up a group and now compete with the larger schools.
Finally, on Friday Mr Smith and Mrs Coe took 15 children to the Over Allotments and had a guided tour. We found the scarecrow that Mrs Atherton and her class had made as well as looking at the ones the other schools had also made.
Then we got guided tours of some of the allotments with their owners. We were even allowed to help one gardener pull up some onions!
The children learnt lots about how different plants grow and how we can recycle different things to help us in the garden.
We would like to say a big thank you to the volunteers at Over Allotments and remind parents of the open day on Saturday 14thJuly 10am-4pm where you can buy honey from the allotment bees, home made cakes and jams and explore the gardens.
