Sycamore class – first week back!
We have had a fantastic first week back in Sycamore class this week. The children have been working very hard and I am very proud of their efforts!
In Maths, we have been working particularly hard at rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100. We have played some fun games with dice, creating our own numbers for our work and taking responsibility for our own learning. We have also played a ‘treasure hunt’ style activity where the children had to search the classroom for the numbers we were going to be rounding up and down! The children have really pushed themselves in expanding their reasoning skills and explanations with this too.
In English, we have been studying Poetry this week. The children have been looking at different grammatical features, adventurous vocabulary and the structure of a free verse poem. Today, we have started to write our own poems based on the children’s own imaginative themes. I am very impressed with what I have seen so far! The children have worked hard to include fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases, and lots of exciting adjectives.
In our topic work, we have started to discover the Romans and Roman life. The children thought about what they already knew about the Romans and what they would like to find out. They then did some independent research on the i-pads and found out lots of interesting facts!
I am so pleased with the effort the children have put into their work this week, well done Sycamore!
Have a fabulous weekend and see you on Monday. Miss Burke.
