Sycamore

Sycamore class has the wow factor!

This week in Sycamore’s online classroom we have been reading the story ‘One plastic bag’. We considered the impact of plastic bags and argued the case whether they were a good invention or an invention that required improvement. We learnt all about Isatou Cessay and her drive to change the way that we use plastic bags. She encountered plastic bags ruining the environment. Isatou reused plastic bags to make purses. Sycamore class have used this theme to inspire them to change recycled materials into something else. The children planned, designed and made their own invention using plastic bags, cardboard and string. Some of the children made plastic bag bracelets others made cardboard pencil pots! We will be continuing with our theme of pollution and looking after our environment through exploring the wordless picture book ‘Flotsam’.

In English this week we have started to look at our exciting story ‘The lost happy endings’. Sycamore class were challenged to work out which traditional fairy tales the happy endings belonged to. The children have started to write a story opening to the journey of Jub and her important job. I am so impressed with how the children have included similes and metaphors to create detailed images in the reader’s mind.

In maths this week we have been recapping elements that we have covered earlier this year. The children have shown a brilliant understanding of place value, recognising 1000s, 100s, 10s and 1s and also being able to partition numbers correctly to support with comparing them.

The children have impressed me with their drive to achieve and the way that they have challenged themselves. Well done Sycamore class! 🙂
