Tales from Acorn wood…
This week the little Acorns have been continuing to enjoy Fox’s Socks and another tale from the Acorn wood collection – Postman Bear.
The children enjoyed various play and learning opportunities linked in with the story’s such as sock sorting and counting and writing letters to be posted in to our post box and delivered to our friends and family.
We also spent some time learning about Remembrance Day. We found out that the flowers that grew in the war fields are called poppies and had a go at creating our own beautiful poppy inspired prints using red paint and apple halves. We also spent some time counting and sorting images of poppies.
We also had fun getting messy in gloop, making patterns and colours using food colouring in the mixture.
We have a few families (and staff member!) who have or are expecting a new baby in their family very soon which has lead to the children showing a keen interest in playing with dolls and showing care for babies this week which we will continue to build on and develop on our play next week.
There was also strong interest in construction and construction vehicles this week too – from this we plan to base lots of our play and learning next week around the book ‘Tip, tip, Dig dig’. We would be grateful if any of our families are able to support us in this play by donating boxes we could use to construct with or any play tools or construction toys you may wish to clear out before Christmas.
Mrs Ogden has enjoyed talking to lots of our parents and carers this week over the telephone and will continue to call those who have not yet been contacted next week.
Please remember to send your child to school each day dressed appropriately for the colder weather and remember that it is also much cooler in our classroom as under Covid guidelines we must keep open windows open throughout the session, the classroom door is often open too.
