Under the sea!
This week the Acorn Preschool children have explored under the sea. We have loved reading the story ‘Tiddler’ – which gave us lots of new experiences with sea creatures. Eels, lobsters, jellyfish, sharks and octopus all feature in this story.
To build on the interest of under the sea animals, the children have created artwork through drawing, painting and collage of brightly coloured fish, like in the story ‘Hooray for Fish’.
In the maths area, the children have explored numbers through a magnetic fishing game and also counting how many altogether through the fish bowl game.
The children have even had a go at expressing themselves through movement to music – as different under sea animals, including jellyfish, shark and octopus.
As the weather has been warmer and the sun has been out, the children have enjoyed lots of outdoor play. This week we have helped to grow the various plants, practiced our weaving skills with ribbons, developed our counting with a magnetic fishing game, and the ‘builders’ have been busy making sure that everything is ‘ship-shape’ using their tools. On Friday, we even managed to have our snack outside with music playing.
Song of the week was ‘Head, shoulders, knees and toes’ which the children have explored naming parts of their body. They love it when this song gets faster and faster.
Next week is we’re very excited that Chatterbox 2017 starts on Monday! Chatterbox 2017 is five days of fun, engaging activities for nurseries and early-years settings with the aim of getting children across the country talking.
We will soon be holding a fun workshop for parents to come in and engage with their child to enjoy fun games based around developing speaking skills, inspired by Chatterbox 2017. Letters to follow with more information.
Stars of the day this week were Landon, Caleb and Louie – well done to you all.
