Hawthorn class have had a fabulous first week back and everyone is settling in to the new school year very well!

In English, we had a special delivery – a huge crate containing a small cloth, a handful of dry crackers and a small supply of water. The children were able to climb inside and share a similar experience to Henry – a slave who incredibly was able to mail himself to freedom. We are very excited to continue exploring our text ‘Henry’s Freedom Box’ next week.

In Maths, we have been investigating numbers up to 1 000 000. The children have worked very hard to apply their place value skills to identify the value of a digit within a given number and to represent numbers in both numerals and words.

In our Topic, we have begun to discover the tropical rainforest. We have identified where they are located and have used our geographical skills to show this on maps and atlases.

We are excited to continue to explore our rainforest theme!
