Welcome back Maple!
What a fun week we’ve had in Maple Class! Maple Class enjoyed their class trip to Pizza Express on Wednesday as part of our Topic on Food. We looked at healthy toppings such as mushrooms and chicken and they were involved in the process from kneading the dough to adding the toppings.
We also had the opportunity to take a tour around Tesco and taste some cheeses. It’s safe to say not many enjoyed the blue cheese! To learn about where our food comes from the children were able to see a fish being prepared and filleted, something they may not have seen before! It is valuable for children to see that food on their plate goes through lots of preparation from the farms to the shops.
In English, we have been learning a poem about villains and thought about villains in stories we already knew, such as The Big Bad Wolf, Darth Vader and Captain Hook. We used lots of interesting words and phrases to describe our own made-up villain and next week Maple Class will be writing their own villain poem.
In Maths, Maple Class have been continuing with shape. We practised describing 2D and 3D shapes and began sorting them according to their properties. We also made a 3D shape out of straws and bluetack and began looking at shape patterns.
The children looked fantastic dressed up for World Book Day! In the afternoon we chose a book to read and completed some activities. Then we made up our own ten word stories!
In Science the children looked at how liquids can become solids as they made pancakes for Shrove Tuesday.
Keep up the hard work Maple!
