Who’s afraid of the Big Bad Wolf? Cedar aren’t!
What a busy week Cedar have had! It has been full of pancake eating, dressing up and heroes and villains!
In English this week we have studied a ‘Defeating the Villain’ story; one of our favourites ‘The Three Little Pigs’. We have learnt the original story by acting out the story map and the children have been fantastic! It’s definitely our best yet. We have fantastic actions, super voices for the characters and a fantastic way to defeat the villain! But the Big Bad Wolf escaped so we have made some wanted posters asking people to help us capture him and put him in jail. We have stuck them all around school, so fingers crossed he will be caught by Monday!
In maths we have been working on our number skills. Blue Cedar have been using various place value equipment to represent numbers to 40 and to find one more and one less. Keep practising finding one more and one less at home. Red Cedar have been making sure that they know all of their number bonds to 10 by using fun resources such as smarties and even dog treats in a dog bowl! Keep practising these additions at home.
In topic this week we have been looking at how to improve our outdoor area. We went to look at Juniper and Acorn’s outdoor areas for inspiration and then the children wrote us a letter to persuade us to do some of their ideas. Since we have been earning about materials, the children had to describe what their toy, house or object was made of so that we knew what to buy.
It was also ‘World Book Day’ this week and there were some fantastic costumes in Cedar! We had Price Charming, a range of beautiful princesses, Denis the Menace, superheroes, the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland (munching on a carrot!) and Peter Pan and Captain Hook. Miss Spaven had come dressed as the crocodile from Peter Pan so we were able to re-enact the ‘defeating the villain’ scene where Peter Pan defeats Captain Hook by feeding him to the crocodile!
To celebrate Pancake Day the children had enormous fun making pancakes! They carefully followed instructions to mix the batter and then flipped their pancake in the pan. There were some brilliant flippers!
Finally we have had some fantastic swimming in our first week back, with some children swimming on their own with a float for the first time. We are very proud of you all. Well done.
Keep up all of your hard work.
